I am a current owner of a VTF-2 MK5. I've only been able to audition the SB2000 which is supposed to be the more 'musical' of the two subs due to the sealed enclosure. Between the VTF-2.5 and the SB2000 I still found the VTF-2.5 to be more 'musical'. It sounds a bit tighter and seems to respond faster than the SB2000 that I listened to. Like the VTF-2, the VTF-3 has two rear ports (side-firing on the VTF-2, rear-firing on the VTF-3), flared to minimize port noise. Stuffing one of these with the supplied foam plug and selecting '20Hz' on a toggle switch puts the subwoofer in its Maximum Extension mode, recommended for the reproduction of music that has very deep bass. Harnessing the unique Variable Tuning Frequency port technology (VTF), each port uses the air generated from the long throw woofer to dramatically boost the deeper frequencies. Workspaces 1 5 2. The reason for variable tuning is that all subwoofer designs, especially consumer-level subwoofers, involve tradeoffs in design. Appcode 3 3 3 download free. The VTF-2 MK5 changes all that. It allows you, the user, to choose the tradeoff. If you enjoy music that is loud but does not have much deep bass, set the VTF series for maximum output. That way, you get maximum dynamic range with the lowest distortion. If you like music with deep bass, set it for maximum bass extension to reproduce the deep bass accurately. You can even switch between the two modes depending on what you play. That means effectively you get a subwoofer that can play loudly, and can play low, all in one, at a reasonable price!

RSL Speedwoofer 10s ($400) and
HSU VTF 2 mk5 ($600 after shipping).
People have loved both.
This will be for 65% movies / 35% music.
On the one hand I am sure the RSL will be a great step up from the Energy I have and it is $200 cheaper.
On the other hand the HSU may be amazing and worth it for my bigger sized (but low ceiling) bonus room.
If it puts things in perspective - I have been fine with the Energy ES-10 so I am hardly a audiophile.
Hmmmmmm.
Should I go RLS or splurge on the HSU?
